Your record comes in a custom sleeve. The front is your artwork, or plain if you leave it blank; the back is the Karaoke Vinyl logo on white or black, or your own artwork. Your record may sound different from the original track

A record isn't a digital copy of your file. The audio is physically cut into a groove, and a groove has limits a file doesn't, so your mix is adjusted to fit them, possibly again by the cutting engineer. Compared with the track you hear on your computer:

  • Bass is narrowed to mono and the very highest frequencies are softened, so the needle can follow the groove without skipping.
  • It plays quieter than streaming or a CD. Loud, heavily compressed mixes are turned down to cut cleanly, and the longer a side runs, the quieter it has to be cut.
  • Sibilance (“s” and “t” sounds), cymbals and distortion can sound harsher, especially toward the end of a side, where the groove passes the needle more slowly.
  • Some surface noise and light crackle are a normal part of playing a record.
